In October 1996 the aircraft that was used by the Suns NBA team got a purple version of the new 1995 America West livery. It would be the very last 737-100 to fly commercially until retirement on December 29, 1999.

In 1989 marketing agreement was signed between America West and the Phoenix Suns basketball team, making their new home in downtown Phoenix the America West Arena. It was not until 1993 that small logos made their way onto America West planes. The very small rear door stickers were soon followed by a larger one beneath the window line at the front of the wing. While the full Suns logojet was unveiled in May 1994, the 731 saw its livery updated in 1996. It was the aircraft actually used by the team for its transport needs.
